It all started in 1992 with the idea that Eli Assouline, the founder of chillouts, wanted to finance his studies. He sold art prints at markets and events and more successfully than expected!
Handmade jewelery and sunglasses were added to the pictures in the summer. Eli found the unusual jewelery on his trip around the world in various countries such as the Philippines, Indonesia and Sri Lanka and then imported it to Germany.
Then in 2003 the first own collection of sunglasses. Now all that was missing was a brand name.
Eli had traveled almost all of Asia as a backpacker in the 90s. Anyone who was traveling in Thailand at that time also knew the notorious"chillout parties". The celebrations were boisterous and relaxed here. These parties embodied a certain attitude to life that was light-hearted, and that was what his new brand should be, and that's how chillouts was born!
The first hat collection was created in 2004, with which Eli drove to the first major sports fair. The collection was extremely well received and a complete success. Nothing stood in the way of expansion. The current headquarters with the associated warehouse were built in the same year.
Since then, the range has grown steadily. In addition to the beanies, there were military caps, baseball caps, docker caps and much more, from then on it was clear that chillouts would only specialize in headwear in the future.
We have been designing two collections a year for many years now.
Our mission is to develop high-quality, trend-conscious headwear for every head and for every situation and we still do that today with a lot of passion, fun and teamwork!
